Whether it’s the first sip in the morning or the last after dinner, we can all agree that coffee is an essential part of the day for most of us.
Americans’ taste for coffee has changed over the years. As we stray away from the watered down and 3-hour old coffee tradition — many of us now, seek out dark, rich, espresso based drinks and cold brews.
That’s why we’ve partnered with our friends at the Brooklyn Roasting Company to develop the perfect blend of coffee. Bold and rich from dark roasted Sumatra beans, balanced with lightly roasted Brazilian and Costa Rican, which combines acidity and a touch of sweetness to each sip.
We’re committed to a coffee program where taste should never be compromised! It might come as a surprise to learn that, unlike money, coffee does grow on trees. Our friends at Brooklyn Roasting Company share that these beans, in fact, are in many forms the magic plant. They are derived from specific regions, farms and craftsmanship to become the fuel that gets us going.
We took a trip to Brooklyn Roasting Company’s factory and learned what we always felt in our hearts, that not all coffee is created equal.
• Coffee beans start green, but during the roasting process, they become a dark, chocolate brown.
• These beans do grow on trees and they produce a fruit that looks like a cherry. The Brooklyn Roasting Company works with the seeds within that ‘cherry’ to extract the coffee bean.
• The selection of these seeds is the most important part of the whole process, resulting in a better flavor. In the past, these seeds were used regardless of their ripped stage, which resulted in being kind of undrinkable.
• Coffee is grown at high altitudes around the world which stress the plant so the seeds inside are denser. The density of the seed allows for more profound flavors.
Not all coffees are created equal! Like wine-grapes, the aroma and flavor of coffee beans are determined by their species, climate, soil, drying, roasting, and blending.
Our restaurant runs on quality ingredients, hard work, great service, and a whole lot of coffee! We are just as passionate about our coffee as we are about everything else we do at Black Barn. No detail is overlooked.
We hope you will savor the results of our passion…
