Heavenly Harvest and Feed the Children are working together to end hunger by bringing a sense of pride and comfort into the homes of American’s in need with the best quality food possible.
The funds raised in our last gala produced 50,000 meals and are currently being distributed to families in need. Here’s a look into the behind the scenes of Chef John Doherty and his team developing the next round of meals.
What We’ve Done
We think that it is important to recognize people and organizations that are already doing a lot for the community and join forces with them to extend the reach of our giving. We recently travelled to Boston where we honored brothers Stuart and Barry Segel, co-owners of Mr. Sid, for their work in their community. Together, we donated 5,000 Heavenly Harvest meals on their behalf to the local YMCA.
“When we help our community, we also help our business because our customers value giving back. So, we’re not all that comfortable positioning ourselves as philanthropists. We’d rather just stay behind the scenes, quietly doing what we do.”— Stuart Segel
On July 10th Heavenly Harvest representatives went out to the Boston Summer Eats Program to distribute these 5,000 meals. This program was organized by the Mayor’s Office Food Access, in partnership with Project Bread and the YMCA of Greater Boston.
The program is offered at more than 100 locations across Boston providing free, healthy meals to youth ages 18 and under. This effort helps to reduce food insecurity and fill the gap that occurs in nutritious food access during the summer months when schools are out of session.
Who We Are
During his tenure as Executive Chef at New York’s Waldorf=Astoria Hotel and feeding royalty, celebrities, and dignitaries, John Doherty created his own 501c3 charity, Heavenly Harvest Foundation as a solution to childhood hunger which is a growing problem in the US. John has designed delicious, nutritious, shelf-stable meals and has partnered with Feed the Children to distribute them to areas most in need.
“While developing various food products for a brand I was consulting for, the thought occurred to me that I could create an entire meal in a package for people who needed it, not wanted it,”– Chef John Doherty
“Our mission is to create shelf stable and nutritious meals that are made with meat, vegetables, pasta or rice, herbs and spices without any preservatives or artificial ingredients. Families in need should be able to eat nutritious foods and we want to be able to create as many meals as we can.”– Chef John Doherty
Feed the Children exists to end child hunger. It is one of the largest U.S.-based charities and serves those in need in the U.S. and in 10 countries around the world. It provides food, education, essentials and disaster relief.
How You Can Help
We are always gratefully accepting donations at www.HeavenlyHarvest.org, and if you can be in the New York City area in September, we will be holding our second charity dinner at BLACKBARN Restaurant to raise funds to feed more families in need in our communities. This year our goal is to make and distribute 100,000+ meals and we would be humbled if you join us by donating today or sharing our message with those who can help us help our neighbors.
